Re: Becomming a New Dep
Things may have changed but a few years ago this is how things were for new deps:
You'll attend the classes for your chosen subjects, it's nothing too intense but it'll give you a clear idea what you've signed up for and if you wish to change at all you'll be able to.
No the Grecians won't have left they'll be enjoying the freedom of being at CH with very little to do (I watched Wimbledon mostly)
Don't worry you'll fit, often there are a few free beds kncoking around and if not matresses can go on the floor in someones study (thats how it worked for our newcomers), sure its a bit crowded but I doubt you'll be spending too much time in your study as there's far to much to be doing.
As for what to bring I can't really help you there, I'd say make sure you bring your usual school equipment as well as civvies, games kit and your usual bathroom supplies, maybe take a few DVDs perhaps you could organise a movie night or something (this just seems like a nice idea to me, I love a good movie night). Hopefully a list of the essentials will be sent out to you.

Two men lying in a bed, one rolled over to the other and said, 'I'm gonna lead me a life of danger, I'm gonna marry a WESSEX RANGER!'

Ok, just got my list through. Seems to confirm what you've said, Laura. Thanks for the info.
Mr Boyle says...
"Please be aware that the accommodation you will have for the Induction Period may be in some cases a temporary solution because of pressure of numbers. In September your accommodation will be far more comfortable."
Sounds interesting...I bet I'll get a shed. >.<
By the way, what are civvies?
I completely forgot that Wimbledon's coming soon! Yay, the best sporting event of the year!

Civvies are essentially your own clothes - short for civilian clothing.

i have a few questions too... this may be me being dim, but what's 'Housey'?

Either the school uniform, or sometimes (less used now I think) the school itself.Urgh-My-Pancreas wrote:....but what's 'Housey'?

Ta, Josh.
So any clothing that isn't from the 16th century...
The prestigious housey uniform. Gemma's been telling me about it.

You new Deps must pop into tuckshop and say hello!
The best way to forget your troubles is to wear tight shoes.

Shoes?
I'm wracking my brains here, and the word 'sock' vaguely comes to mind - possibly in the plural. Gosh, all sorts of weird and rathr sweaty associations are zinging around now - boots and wellies...
Strangely enough I don't ever remember wearing sandals or 'flip-flops' when I lived in the UK. Funny how life changes!
hmm... 'tuck' - seems to me that that must be related to rice in some way?

I'll make sure that I drop into the tuck shop.
Argh, I'm exhausted. And I have two more days of work left...But the thought of induction sustains me. :p

Re: Becomming a New Dep
It's probably cheating for me to be typing, but what the heck.
Of course, today is the most exciting flagless (i.e. not OBD, Open Day etc.) day of the year, as we get flooded with new people. I've seen Idgie and Hannah - both seem well. Not run into John yet...

Re: Becomming a New Dep
Oh yes. It goes thus:
Regular
Full Housey
Leopard Skins
SBTS Marchpast
Mr. Whittingham in Red
Flag
Wednesday was only a regular but was still the most significant of the regulars...plus there were a bunch of governors there so they should have had the SBTS marchpast.

Josh you are drinking too much tea, I think it is affecting your English grammar.
I may be hoist by my own pedant here (O' Level English Grade C in 1970) but surely 'there WAS a bunch of governors'.
